What’s in a name?
Grand Ledge’s City Council has begun to find out.
Earlier this fall, council members began the decision-making process for a long-awaited change: a slogan upgrade. The current statement, “living life on the ledge,” is no longer up to snuff.
Although members wish to incorporate the city’s name into its slogan, Mayor Kalmin Smith said the process has not been easy. He said the right statement has to be a perfect summation of the town, right down to the stationery.
“I actually like the one we have now — the problem is, when it appears on stationery it’s just a black blob,” Smith said.
So far, such phrases like “living life on the ledge” and “on the ledge of greatness” have been suggested, each with matching designs to follow. But so far, nothing stuck. Smith said he wanted to slogan to symbolize moving forward.
“We wanted something a little more contemporary,” he said.
City Council members soon will put the slogans to a vote this fall. A poll for community members also is expected.
